I bought a small set of Essdee scraperboards (a total of 10) with some modest scratch tools a long time ago - by the way, these can be called scratchboard or scraperboard.
Took me a while to use up the entire 10 sheets, but I have finally done it. They are roughly an A5 size, so perfect to make small illustrations.
I've really enjoyed trying out this medium, and I find it very akin to linocuts and woodcuts. Also it's a very inexpensive and durable material - the scraperboard is made with Indian ink and if you use lightfast watercolors or inks, your work will be very durable, if not archival.
These two illustrations were inspired by the following art prompts: "Yellow city" and "Nine tail fox". It's definitely a medium that lends itself to expressive illustration and I was quite happy about how these turned out.
Below is a final overview of all the 10 illustrations I've done with this medium. In the meantime I've gotten myself a book about the medium and might be picking up some more scraperboards to illustrate.
Thanks for stopping by!
