2020 year in Drawings and Paintings

This year I did around 94 drawings/paintings - I am counting the ones I did for inktober (in my old seawhite sketchbook), in my Arteza watercolor sketchbook (some were done in gouache or acrylics) and the illustrations I did for Mausritter Mondays.

I am not counting other minor sketches I have done for prints, for example the ones I did for the international print exchange (IPE 2020). So in total I am quite sure I did more than 100 sketches/illustrations, which is great.

I finished two sketchbooks, one of them quite old, a square seawhite sketchbook, that I have for 4 years. It was great to finally take the plunge to finish it, I've used it mainly for inktober drawings and I really enjoyed working in a square format.

I've also finish an Arteza watercolor sketchbook. I had several objectives with this one: I wanted to try more different techniques, like acrylics and gouache; draw/paint different subjects; draw/paint more from life; use the sketches as a starting point for final drawings/paintings or prints.

I succeed in the first and second objective, in total I did 8 studies in acrylics/gouache, so quite a few; and I drew 9 animals, 10 landscapes, 13 still lives, 6 flowers and 1 portrait. But it was really difficult to try to draw more from life, I would never find things that motivated me to draw them. So I ended up sticking mostly to photos. In addition, 3 of the drawings/paintings were used as a starting point for a final print (see examples below).

For 2021, I am thinking to start to paint even more, mainly in opaque mediums, acrylics and gouache for now, doing expressive studies of simple subjects (like flowers and landscapes), so I can get more familiar with my paints. I have a bunch of small canvas and acrylic paper sitting in my closet so it´s time to use it.

I have made a similar post for the prints I developed in 2020, which you can see here.

Thanks for stopping by and let's see what 2021 brings!
